During the 2022/23 season Roderick will be working at three major European opera
houses on productions ranging from Baroque burlesque to Bartók ballet. Preparation
for a new double-bill production of Both éla Bartók's
Miraculous Mandarin / Bluebeard's Castle in Basel begins in November and Roderick
will be conducting two performances on 10 and 14 January 2023.
The modern revival of
Achille in Sciro
by the Italian composer Francesco Corselli will
be premiered at Teatro Real in Madrid in February. Roderick is involved in
preparing a modern performing score and will be assisting musical director Ivor Bolton
as well as playing harpsichord in five performances.
Baroque opera returns to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich this season with no less
than three works, starting with a revival of Cavalli's comedy
La Calisto.
This is followed by
an innovative production of Monteverdi's
Il Ritorno d'Ulisse with texts by American author Joan Didion.
The season closes with a staging of Handel's
Semele
during the summer opera festival in July.
Roderick will be assistant conductor and harpsichordist on all three productions.
